Hi,
I'm in Advertising. Having dealt with a few, allow me to explain why I think most Marketers see Social Media as a "magical" tool.

The erroneous perception of Social Media as simply 'free' media, and fact that nearly the only Social Media campaigns we see are obviously the very successful ones - is why Social Media is seen as a panacea by Marketers.

It's just another medium, they say - so it's straight to: "Let's create an iPhone app / viral video!" Rarely is there debate on the relevance or context of Social Media.

Most Marketers have "traditional media" as their frame of reference. And there, there is significant cost based on the circulation figure (viewers), geographic reach, and number of exposures (frequency)... Besides the high cost of producing a TV Commercial or even photography, for a Press campaign.

Now, when you tell a Marketer that his Facebook page has the potential to reach hundreds of millions of potential customers worldwide with unlimited exposures, and it can even be measured for effectiveness, plus you all you need is royalty-free, user-generated content - and all this on TOP of near-zero media fees... can we fault him if his eyes begin to glaze over? But it's apples and oranges really.

I am sorry for the long ramble... but I have disagree with you on one point - then, I'll leave... Privacy is not a myth.

Open any corporate email, scroll down, and read the caveat on confidentiality at the end. Or consider the veil of secrecy around officialdom. You see, it is ONLY individuals that have no right to privacy.

And before I go... I must say, your idea of introduction videos as ice-breakers is a real gem.

It's was quite the experience to be in a room full of MAC enthusiasts’ since I come from the world of UNIX and PC. A lot of people there knew all the generations of MAC and it was great to see the iphones out as well.

I learnt lot and enjoyed the presentation on the US only webs sites. I wonder if they work for other countries?

Thanks for your interest, and "blog" coverage.

I really should update my website soon. I no longer buy "Green Tags" from Green Tags Ontario, as they have closed down. Instead, I buy my electricity from Bull Frog Power ( http://www.bullfrogpower.com/ ), which is a green supplier of electricity in Ontario. Their mix is approximately 20% wind generation, and 80% "eco-certified low-impact hydro". As the usage ratio is approximately 20/80 between my truck/house, I then claim that my truck runs on the wind, and my house runs on the rain. By the way, our house was also converted to get away from "natural" gas, to using a Ground Source Heat Pump (a.k.a. Geothermal), so both the truck and house no longer consume fossil fuels.

Ah yes....picking a name for your business! What a process! Creative, Involved, Engaging and Fun were all important elements involved in choosing "the" name. I had a few in mind and as Natasha mentionned involving others in the selection is critical. One can get pretty immersed in their biz and suffer from tunnel vision. So a little help from friends, family and colleagues is always beneficial.
My biz name was chosen after my original business plan had been written. While plugging away at the plan I kept my eyes and ears open for inspiration in the name department. I networked extensively with only my personal name but felt a biz name was important. I wanted my biz name to reflect my vision and mission so including the team aspect was very important. So that's where the Fleet bit came in.... then the Fit just naturally positioned itself. I officially chose FitFleet Fitness and have since discovered that it's a mouth full. So I have shortened it to FitFleet when speaking with people - it saves the tongue twister.
So get out there beautiful people and have fun with this process. You can always sample a few before you commit 100% Have fun!
